Abstract

The root-knot nematosis of “Chicória do Pará” (Eryngium foetidum, L.) have occurred, frequently,
in commercial family gardens in Santarém. The horticulturists estimated that the death
of plants reach 20 to 100%. They do not succeed in controlling the disease, because it is
unknown to them. This work goals were to teach the olericultores to identify and manage this
disease, using agroecological techniques. Therefore, introduce them in the process of converting
conventional vegetable gardens (HCs) into agroecological gardens. The methodologies
were visits to five vegetable gardens, between January and April 2017, with oral interviews
(EOs), applications of the teaching-learning process (PEA) and individual discussions (DIs). All
methodologies showed to be important and efficient, although there is a need to continue the
process with extension programs wich involves teaching methods, aimed the identification and
agroecological management of plant diseases.
