In situ conservation of native and native beans at risk of extinction by peasants in Antioquia, Colombia

The research was carried out between the years 2015 and 2016 in the municipalities of Santa
Rosa de Osos, Belmira, Entrerríos, Cocorná, and Caramanta of the department of Antioquia
(Colombia). Its objectives were 1) to identify and characterize the custodians and haverters of
traditional bean varieties, establishing their motivations, and 2) to identify and document the
different varieties of bean used, preserved by farmers. The methodology used was qualitative
and the data collection techniques were participant observation and semi-structured interviews.
In addition, a form was used to collect basic agronomic data, such as growth habit, life
cycle, uses and habitat.
