The Xukuru Indians inhabit the agreste of the State of Pernambuco, in the northeastern region
of Brazil. The Xukuru Wise Encounter is held in January and aims to socialize the readings
of time and nature so that they guide the agricultural activities throughout the year. Men and
women, especially older Indians, the wise holders of traditional knowledge, socialize their predictions.
Also readings and knowledge are socialized in relation to the traditional system of
healing and traditional Xukuru cuisine. Seeds of corn and beans were obtained through exchange
networks that are being rescued and will be planted. The information was collected
with the participation, observation and registration of the authors during the meeting. For this
year, according to forecasts, few rains are announced in most areas of the indigenous territory,
but it is certain that the Xukuru are doing their part, taking care of nature and preserving the
traditional seeds.
