Abstract

The “muta” (Blepharocalyx sp.) Is a vegetable, the fruit of which is appreciated by the inhabitants
of the traditional communities of southeastern Pará. However, this shrub is not cultivated
because it is considered a pasture species. Thus, the objective of this work was to know farmers’
knowledge about the biology and the use of the species under study. Through discourse
analysis, it was possible to describe, from the farmers’ discourses, botanical, ecological, environmental
and sociocultural information associated with the “muta”. At the end, we perceive
the agroecological potential of the species.
