Agrobiodiversity, landraces and seed custodians – or the construction of a new social reality from a new rural reality

It is understood that the predominant economic model in the 21st Century is inadequate. In the
sphere of agriculture, such a model is expressed in the form of an artificialization of cultivated
environments, dominated by a few transnational corporations, overlapping traditional production
systems in which production takes place based on inputs found in the production unit. At
the same time, the matrix of the dominant model is based on the exploitation of nonrenewable
resources, which, in the conception of a large part of the scientific world, has led to global
warming. Thus, it is fundamental to make it possible to invest in more sustainable agricultural
models such as those that obey the principles of agroecology, at the same time as the agro-
-ecological society is built, where there is an identity between urban and rural citizens. Based
on a Methodology that deals with the understanding of the relationships that make up the rural
reality, this work reports the experiences achieved in this construction based on the knowledge
of the creole varieties and their guardians as well as the development of a strategy for the dissemination of this germplasm.
