Fishery Agreement of Saracá Island, in the municipality of Limoeiro do Ajuru-PA: a proposal for intervention from the fishing resource

The work is an account of an experience of participation in the public hearing on the Fisheries
Agreements and the opening of fishing on Saracá Island, in the municipality of Limoeiro do
Ajuru, in the region of Baixo Tocantins-PA, in which the agreements were discussed Fisheries,
existing conflicts, social and environmental issues, social participation in organizations, the importance
of public agencies in trying to construct an alternative of local social and environmental
impacts that are detrimental to riparians. These agreements are a set of rules created by the
fishermen of the riverside localities and other institutions that supports the fishing control of the
region, such as governmental and non-governmental organizations. Fishing is the main activity
of the community, but there is still a lack of information on the management techniques to carry
out strategies to preserve and maintain the fishes, and with that to guarantee the income and
the subsistence of the community.
