Abstract

Beekeeping has great potential in the Velho Chico Territory. Due to the favorable climate and,
mainly, to the diversity of bee flora available in the region, the activity becomes an alternative
of increase of income and environmental preservation. The present work aims to implant an
experimental apiary on the campus of the Institute to develop management techniques; To
increase the knowledge of the community regarding the preservation of the regional biomes,
valuing the native flora through research and extension actions in communities, schools and
associations; protection of bees, through the promotion of agroecological apiculture practices;
Opening of the range of income-generating opportunities among beekeepers, family farmers
and others involved; And intensification and enrichment of the teaching, research and extension
triad in the process of knowledge construction in areas of the courses offered by IF Baiano,
Bom Jesus da Lapa Campus.
