Abstract

The traditional populations of Nordeste Paraense have undergone numerous transformations
over time, promoted, among other activities, by the implantation of hydroelectric power plants
in their territory. The residents of the Costa de Santana Community, located in the riverside
area of the municipality of Mocajuba-Pará, are among those populations that suffered socioeconomic
and environmental changes. The methodology used in the work was quanti-qualitative,
based on the application of a questionnaire carried out in loco in the community with residents
and local representatives. The significant reduction of fish was the main negative effect
after the construction of the dam. In this context, the present study aims to conduct a survey
and analyze the social and environmental impacts perceived by residents of the community
and caused by the construction of the Tucuruí dam.
