The quilombola communities bring in their way of life a tradition transmitted by years of struggle
for survival, whose agriculture is totally different from the models currently defended by
agribusiness. Aiming to maintain tradition and knowledge about developed agriculture, the
objective of this study is to evaluate the agricultural scenario in quilombola communities in the
Sertão Productive Territory. Three quilombola communities of the municipality of Caetité-BA
were evaluated through visits with a structured socio-cultural questionnaire. The family farmers
of these localities develop an agroecological model of sustainable production from works together,
still with little modern applied technology. However, they guarantee the survival of families
and contribute to the maintenance of their historical characteristics. Apparently the limiting
factors for production are lack of water and technical assistance and / or rural extension in the
community.
