The marketing of fruits of juçara: an alternative source of income and preservation of biodiversity of gallery forest of the river Hills/MA

In River Munin, farmers living on subsistence agriculture collect the fruits of the juçara (Euterpe
Oleracea) to process, sell and obtain family income. The juçara has an important role for the
maintenance of gallery vegetation on the banks of this river. The economic value of the juçara
provides the production of its wine, whose drink is appreciated throughout the Munin region.
The objective of this work was to investigate, in the years 2015 and 2016, the economic and
ethnobotanical aspects of the city of. For the residents of the villages Morais, Fatima and Peixinho,
in the municipality of Morros/MA. The research was carried out in these three villages
applying five semi-structured interviews with the owners of juçarais. Juçara has collaborated to
maintain and preserve the vegetation of the gallery forest and, during the harvest period, which
runs from September to January, generates additional income for the families that sell the fruit.
