Abstract

This theoretical essay deals with the approach of the concept of Biopoder by Michel Foucault
as a theoretical reference to discuss the theme of Creole seeds. The objective of this study is
to relate the concept of Biopower in Foucault Biopolitics with the scenario of privatization and
commodification of the seeds and discuss the contributions and weaknesses of this theoretical
approach. The methodology was centered in the bibliographic review. The theoretical reference
of Foucault brings numerous contributions to problematize the structures and relations of
power that permeate the processes of privatization and mercantilization of the seeds. However,
the approach to the concept of Bipoder is not sufficient to understand the diversity of modes
of existence and resistance of farmers who practice Agroecology and act as guardians of
creole seeds, in addition to the rationality of the structures of power and control of Processes.
