Seed and seedlings exchange fair: exchange of knowledge and strengthening of family farming in the far west of Santa Catarina

The present account describes the experience of the seed and seedling exchange fair that took
place at the First Meeting of Agrobiodiversity of the West of Santa Catarina (IENAOC), in Anchieta
municipality, Santa Catarina state. The meeting reunited farmers, researchers, students
and local leaders to discuss ‘the role of landraces in the sovereignty and Food security of farmers.
The fair aimed at promoting the conservation of agrobiodiversity, by means of exchange
of the products and the knowledge exchange between researchers, farmers and students.
Eighty-eight different products of local agrobiodiversity have been identified, including seeds,
vegetative propagating material, spices, medicinal and ornamental plants, artisanal products
and hickory chicken eggs. The experience provided appreciation of family farming, the expansion
of diversity and the exchange of knowledge among the participants, strengthening the
conservation of local agrobiodiversity.
