Dissemination and discussion of scientific research to the valuing of agrobiodiversity and traditional knowledge of the family farming in the west region of Santa Catarina: experiences of the I ENAOC

Abstract

This report aimed at exposing the experience of the First Meeting of the Agrobiodiversity of the
West of Santa Catarina State (IENAOC), in the municipality of Anchieta. The purpose of the
ENAOC was the participation and inclusion of farmers in discussions about the conservation
of local varieties in order to contribute effectively to family farming and the agrobiodiversity
conservation. The meeting brought together farmers from the region’s municipalities, researchers,
teachers, students, representatives and leaders of local organizations. The results
of the research carried out by the Núcleo de Estudos em Agrobiodiversidade were published
and discussed for fourteen years and the opinions of the farmers were presented in a group
dynamic. The dissemination of the results of scientific research and the discussion of these
between researchers and farmers can contribute to the valorization of agrobiodiversity and the
traditional knowledge associated with its products.
