Produce to conserve: management of conservation units in the metropolitan region of Belém - the case of the agrovárzea project
Keywords:
protected areas, agroforestry systems, sustainable developmentAbstract
Conservation units are spaces of natural characteristics relevant to ensuring samples of different
populations and ecosystems. IDEFLOR-bio develops projects aimed at the valorization
and development of the populations of the UC’s, highlighting the agrovárzea, developed
through the GESPAR methodology with theoretical and practical capacities in various themes,
encouraging the diversification of agroforestry production and the practice of rural tourism, as
well as commercialization Products. The project is still under development, but greater effectiveness
of public management in the PAs has already been observed, with the participation
of representations in the management councils, indicating a greater degree of empowerment
of the populations. We believe that the project has promoted conservation measures, taking
into account the ecosystem’s own knowledge of the communities and seeking effective ways
to ensure that these resources are used rationally, thus promoting rural development through
sustainable use.
