Abstract

This article aimed to present data on the potential of the Santa Cruz community, belonging to
the Quilombola Brejão dos Negros Territory, for the development of Community Based Tourism
(CBT), based on a dissertation proposal of the Master Program of the Professional Masters
Program in Tourism of the Federal Institute of Sergipe (PPMTUR / IFS) and other research
actions conducted by the Nucleus of Agroecological Studies of the Federal Institute of Sergipe
(NEA / IFS). For this purpose, visits were made to the community to study the environmental,
socioeconomic, productive and cultural aspects present at the site. During the visits the data
were collected through the use of participatory methodologies, among them the transversal
walk and semi-structured interviews. The methodology allowed the recognition of two distinct
areas of the quilombo: the restinga forest and the productive lots. During the course of the restinga forest, plant species of phytotherapeutic and cultural value were observed for the
community. In the productive area, the subsistence crops and the “capoeira chickens” were
also highlighted, also present in the productive backyards. The richness of ecosystems, diversity
of landscapes and land use can be attractive to CBT, contributing to the promotion of sustainable
development in the region, preserving the environment and customs of the community.
