Abstract

The Jacaranda-da-bahia as it is popularly known, is a species of great importance, because it
is used in furniture and widely used in landscaping and for soil recovery. The present research
had as objective to perform the biometric characterization and the physiological quality of Jacarandá-
da-Bahia seeds collected directly in the tree and after the dehiscence of the fruits in
the soil. For the physiological quality of the seeds were carried out the tests of thousand seed
weight, moisture content and electrical conductivity and for the biometric characterization the
measurements of the length, width and thickness. The data were analyzed according to the
frequency in which they were distributed to the data regarding the biometric characterization
and the data obtained for physiological quality of the seeds their means were compared by the
F test at 5% probability. There were variations in the physiological quality and biometric characteristics
of the seeds collected in the tree in relation to those collected to the soil.
