Abstract

Brazil has a long tradition in the use of medicinal plants linked to popular knowledge transmitted
between generations. The objective of this work is to identify the ways of obtaining and
transferring traditional knowledge about medicinal plants from the quilombola families of João
Grande community in Viseu / PA. The study is a qualitative survey and the following tools were
used to collect the data: participant observation and formal and informal interviews, through
a previously elaborated questionnaire. In the research it was verified that quilombola families
carry out the transfer of knowledge about medicinal plants between the generations and this
practice made possible its reproduction until the present day and will guarantee its existence
in the future times.
