Agroecological transition through a pioneering initiative: implementation of agroecological experimentation units

Abstract

Among the several activities that together formed the entire “Agroecological Transition Project
in the Headwaters of the Rio Macaé”, a precursor project in the State of Rio de Janeiro, the
implantation of agroecological experimentation units (called UEAs) was the main axis, where
through Insertion of plots destined to the application of agroecological techniques was aimed
at demonstrating the results of good practices in agroecology. These plots served as a comparison
to the rest of the property, showing the possibility of applying these techniques in order
to bring sustainability to the productive areas, improvements in soil and production conditions,
reduction of erosion processes, non-use of chemical pesticides, among others.
