The present article has the purpose of presenting the experience obtained with the exchange
visits to the innovative agroecological management experiences that occurred during the execution
of an agroecological transition project in Nova Friburgo, in the State of Rio de Janeiro. In
addition to being a process of interaction between farmers and technicians, in the discussions
of agroecological practices and management, it was also a moment of questioning about the
paradigms surrounding agroecology and its appropriation by family agriculture. Farmers who
participated in this experiment could have contact with farmers in the family agriculture who
were in the process of using successful agroecological techniques. This exchange was also
relevant with regard to environmental education to improve farmers’ quality of life and health,
quality of the environment and food security.
