This research has the objective of reflects on the sustainability of local food production in
agroindustrial and agroecological systems. Sustainability is a dynamic and complex term. For
its operationalization, the evaluation, monitoring and characterization of sustainability indicators
of an agroecosystem are indispensable. These systems will be studied through the Natural
Resource Management Systems Assessment Framework (MESMIS). This method involves
the active participation of the different actors in the construction of the indicators, achieved with
a process of participatory action research.
The investigation is in progress and the first results show the level of agroecological transition
and the perspectives of the farming families in front of new productive and organizational
proposals. It also shed light on the dilemmas of addressing social aspects, with a qualitative
profile, in the construction of indicators used to compare sustainability.
