Abstract

This manuscript analyses the results of the project: “Structuring Actions Towards Value Aggregation
in Agroecological Transitional Farms” in the region of Pelotas, RS, Brazil. The project
intended to facilitate the comprehension of the legal aspects related with the processing of
fruits into juices by agroecological family farmers who process foods in their establishments,
aiming to abide by all regulations. The MAPA’s Normative Instruction Nº 17 was the legal framework
used. Normative Instruction Nº 17 stated the administrative procedures and requirements
for family farmers to register their establishment and products. The action research was
developed directly with the farmers and all the related institutions with agri-food enterprises
formalization. This phase of the project provided the necessary steps for the legalization and
the development of know-how among the researchers that provides a model for other regions
to develop related activities, which will strength the local agroecological movement.
