Abstract

Biodiversity is essential if an ecosystem is to balance and stay healthy. A soil management that
respects the ecosystem in a holistic way, allowing the conservation of natural resources, and
the maintenance of biodiversity guarantees a positive relation with the ecosystem. This work
aims to identify the practices of sustainable management of the soil used by the family farmer
and how they can help in the process of soil conservation and climatic changes mitigation. The
survey was conducted on April 23, 2016, using primary and secondary data. A semi-structured
interview was conducted with a family farmer (FMS), one of the experimental farmers of
the Nea-Trilhas (Agroecology Studies Center). The family farmer applies some agroecological
principles revealed in soil management techniques that could be improved from the government
incentive, as well as from the knowledge acquired in agroecological-based groups such
as courses and workshops.
