The Water quality begins with care in its springs, which must be protected and free from external
contamination from environmental pollution. The Settlement of Santo Dias, in the city
Guapé, Minas Gerais state, has abundant water springs. Considering the partnership between
the settlement and the Nucleus of Multidisciplinary Studies in Agroecology and Family Agriculture
(NEMAAF), water samples were collected and analyzed from five springs of the settlement
in order to analyze the quality, availability and conservation of the springs. The results
of the water analysis were returned to the community, and was also offered a workshop of the
construction of the sand filter and chlorinator. It can be considered that these activities made
possible the reflection on the quality of water in the rural environment and what alternatives can
be used to treat and recover the springs, besides enabling farmers to build their own systems
of water treatment.
