This study aimed to characterize the socioeconomic profile of consumers attending the Organic
Products Fair in Santarém, PA. In March 2017 interviews were conducted with 32 consumers
during their purchases at the fair. The interviews were carried out in a semi-structured
questionnaire containing questions about socioeconomic aspects and consumption of organic
products. The literature on the subject indicates that the concern with health has led to the
search for consumption of healthier foods, increasing the demand for organic products, especially
in fairs. In Santarém, PA, the profile of consumers of organic products is consistent
with results found in other studies conducted in Brazil. The data show that the majority of
consumers attending the fair are women, with university education, family income of up to six
minimum wages and who have chosen to consume organic products due to their interest in
maintaining quality of life.
