Abstract

His paper aims to report the local productive arrangement of Savannah extraction in the Lagoa
Grande Settlement, Itahum District, Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, in order to broaden the
role of women in the rural economy. In 2012, a group of settlers who, since 2008, worked with
Savannah fruits, set up an association called Flavors of Savannah Lagoa Grande Settlement,
Itahum District, MS. The association was created with the purpose of divulging the food products produced by the residents of the Lagoa Grande settlement, as well as the fruits of the
Savannah that are used in this food production, through the promotion and / or participation in
national and international fairs, events and exhibitions ; Stimulate the marketing of the products
and arts of its members. The group today comprises 20 women who withdraw the main family
income from the Savannah. They work in a fair and solidary way, aiming at the best utilization
of the local productive capacities, in this way, they gather for the collection and processing of
the fruits. They also commercialize the products generated collectively. The rural women of Lagoa
Grande Settlement have been involved in collective and innovative forms of organization
with a view to building a development model based on the Savannah sustainability, income generation,
food security and gender equality. The sustainable extractivism carried out by these
women represents an important strategy for the conservation and restoration of the remnant
Savannah in the region. The creation of the association allowed these women to obtain marketing
space from within the University, this data points to the importance of collective actions for
the sustainable development of the region.
