Abstract

The management of spontaneous plants in the cultivation of corn in the organic system presents a great challenge to the producers. The most commonly
used manures are manual weeding and mowing, which, in addition to inefficient, cost production. The objective of this study was to evaluate
the suppression of spontaneous plants in the intercropping of organic corn simultaneously with one or two species of green manure.
The experimental design was a randomized block design with four replications. The treatments were the cultivation systems: single corn (M),
corn + Crotalaria spectabilis (MC), corn + Cajanus cajan, corn + spectabilis + C. cajan. The dry masses of the spontaneous plants were
sampled at the four (V4) and eight (V8) expanded leaves of the maize. The corn intercropped with C. spectabilis and C. cajan simultaneously
did not interfere in the dry matter production of the spontaneous plants. The highest dry matter production of spontaneous plants
occurred in the V8 stage of maize, regardless of the cropping systems.
