Community workshops involving agroforestry systems (AFS) typically include communal meals, which also require planning and execution of food preparation activities. This article aims to describe and discuss issues related to food and nutrition in activities with AFS, reflecting on the learning and challenges faced by the kitchen team. To this end, we conducted a descriptive and qualitative study, using participant observation and field diary records of participants' testimonies. As main results, we perceived the importance of team cohesion and dialogue for sharing experiences, knowledge, skills and values about food preparation and nutrition, as well as the need for training to deal with unforeseen events and consider local conditions, the participating audience, and the time required for task completion, as well as quality control of sensory aspects, nutritional aspects, and the implementation of good hygiene practices to avoid waste and make good use of local products.
