Abstract

Faced with a growing concern about the availability of water in rural properties and the need
to understand and systematize favorable experiences to the maintenance of water resources,
the “Water Nodes Network” emerges at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) with the objective
of developing activities of teaching, research and extension about this element, so limiting
and essential to all activities and to human life itself. In this context, the network has promoted
spaces for collaborative and participatory training for the dissemination of techniques and social
technologies for “Water Planting”, that is, increasing the water retention and maintenance
capacity by the soil and supplying the groundwater. In addition to the construction of ecological
tanks as technologies for improving water quality and teaching environmental education to
young people. All the activities have been carried out with the syndicates and associations of
family farmers, social movements and Agricultural Family Schools (EFA) in the Forest Zone of
Minas Gerais.
