Abstract

To reach the status of agro ecological producers, the residents of the New Amazon Settlement
Project, located in the State of Roraima, have experienced several difficulties. Among them
were the access to land and the absence of public policies to promote the transformation in its
production model. The objectives of this work were to identify the main obstacles encountered
in a change in the conventional horticultural production method for agro ecological. From February
to March 2017 were interviewed managers of institutions that supported the transition
and made visits to farmers in their lots and the place of commercialization of their products.
Among the farmers who continue to produce agro ecologically, the importance of the assistance
of a public-private institution that was the main tool for transition to producers was verified,
providing technical assistance, training and means of access to the market.
