Butia fruit promoting agroecological interactions: an experience report in the Missões Rural Territories and Northeast Border in Rio Grande do Sul State

This report describes the history of butiá party in Giruá-RS and the interactions among different
agroecological knowledges and its actors. In the agroecological context, the economic use
and the cultural preservation of native fruits have an important role. In the south of Brazil, different
social actors are involved with the yatay butiá, where the butiá party is essential for their
articulation. This work aims at reporting the social interactions observed in the 11th butiá party.
It was identified the importance of gastronomic, cultural and technical activities. In conclusion,
there are several meanings for butiá in the region and that the 11th butiá party revealed to be
the proper space to create and reinforce the bonds among the social actors who are involved.
