Course of organic production of vegetable crops in the rural settlement Córrego Rico

The course at the Córrego Rico settlement was aimed to enable farmers to grow organic vegetables,
adding value to production, improving prices to direct selling and to institutional markets,
also improving the use of participatory techniques in the both university and rural extension.
Courses like these are important because they allow the appropriation of technical knowledge,
concepts and principles of agroecology by the participants, in this case, students and
farmers. It was held biweekly with theoretical classes at the seat of the settlement association
and practices on farmers’ lots. In different ways, farmers have appropriated of knowledge and
could see results in practice, as in the case of an agriculture that has made several beds with
vegetation cover and he verified that the cover provides humidity maintenance, the decrease of
local temperature and a greater plants development in comparison with the conventional plot.
