Abstract

Through problems resulting from the use of agrochemicals, such as environmental degradation
and intoxication of producers and animals, arises the idea of alternative and sustainable
agriculture, that brings a higher quality of life to the population and profit for the family farmers
that survive in the countryside. The report presents the experience of Falqueto´s family, who
opted for the organic cultivation of vegetables in the Sítio Nossa Senhora Aparecida, located
in Alto Bananeiras, county of Venda Nova do Imigrante - ES. Through the visit to the farm it
was possible to conduct an interview with the family, aiming to emphasize the importance of an organic agriculture, to know its main difficulties and benefits. Therefore, it was analyzed that
the site produces about 900 kg annually between pumpkin, manioc and palm heart, approximately
16 thousand units of vegetables such as lettuce, garlic, porridge and sugar bread loaf,
as well as 11.5 thousand packets of broccoli, chives, Spinach and taioba. In order to clean the
site where the planting will take place, no pesticides are used. Therefore, the manual weeding
system of the invasive species is used, which compose the deposition layer of organic matter,
resulting in the replacement of nutrients to the soil. The form of fertilization of the soil is carried
out through the organic manure. This type of crop benefits the producer, who received the certificate
of organic product and sells his products at the family agriculture fair in his municipality,
still owning a shop inside the property, attracting ecotourists from different places, promoting
a better quality of life and well Being to its visitors. In this way it can be concluded that organic
agriculture is a viable alternative if compared to conventional agriculture, being able to be allied
to agrosilvipastoral systems, preserving the environment. Despite difficult implementation and
management, it is advantageous to produce healthier foods, as well as the financial value of
the product, generating greater profit for the producer.
