Abstract

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the seed production and physiological quality of seven
lettuce cultivars under two organic production system environments: at open field and greenhouse.
The experiment was carried out in the fall, at Experimental Station - PESAGRO in
the district of Avelar-RJ, at south-central region of Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, in 2013. It were
evaluated the cycle, seed yield per plant and percentage of germination of seed. The experimental
design was a randomized block considering cultivars versus production environment.
The yields ranged from 1.9 to 26.7 g plant-1. The percentage of germination was greater than
95% in greenhouse. At the open field was 65%, because the occurrence of rainfall during the
maturation phase. The production of lettuce cultivars seeds in organic system is feasible for all
cultivars. At greenhouse environment provides greater production, higher viability and vigor of
all lettuce seed cultivars evaluated.
