Demonstration units: diversifying with organic potatoes

Abstract

The production of potatoes in the organic system has increased in recent years, together with
the concern for the preservation of the agroecosystem, but there is still a lack of research on
management techniques and cultivars that adapt in this cropping system. In this sense, the
demonstrative units appear as an alternative to propagate cultivation techniques in the organic
system to the producers, the project was the result of the creation of the first Agroecology and
Organic Production Study Center of the Southwest of Paraná (NEA_Sudoeste_PR) with the
Mixed Research Unit And Technology Transfer (UMIPTT) UTFPR / Embrapa. In this way, the
project aims at an exchange of know-how between family farmers and the academy that will
allow the community’s food base to be expanded.
