Abstract

An organic agriculture has shown as a viable alternative for the productive inclusion of family
farmers. In this sense, the present research aims to analyze the context of organic agriculture
in the state of Bahia due to it presents the largest number of family farming establishments in
Brazil. The study was based on analysis of secondary data, and used as a method the analysis
of content from the National Register of Organic Producers. In comparison to the Northeastern
states, Bahia occupies only sixth place in the number of producers accredited as organic, with
373 producers. The absence of participatory certification organizations in the state demonstrates
a certain disarticulation between the actors related to organic production in Bahia, which
would promote the expansion of the markets of organic products for the producers who have
already made the transition, as well as the entry of other producers.
