The challenges for organic vegetable production in Teresina - PI are many, among them the
lack of technical information on the performance of the cultivars available in the local market
using organic farming system. In this way, the objective was to identify lettuce cultivars that
are most adapted to the organic production system in the Teresina - Piauí climatic conditions.
The treatments consisted of 06 (six) commercial cultivars of lettuce of the crisp and the smooth
groups with characteristics of resistance to pendeamento, sold in local commerce. A completely
randomized design with 04 (four) replicates was used. The agronomic characteristics
evaluated at 55 days after sowing were: a) Number of leaf per plant (NFP); b) Circumference
of plant (CP); c) Phytosanitary (FS): d) Resistance to pesting (RP). For organic production system
the best results were of the cultivars Aurélia and Mônica of the smooth and curly groups,
respectively.
