Green fertilizers in the suppression of spontaneous plants
Keywords:
control, Soil cover, LegumesAbstract
The objective of this research was to evaluate the potential of different legumes as green manures
in suppressing weeds. The experiment was carried out in Sao Luis (MA) in a randomized
block design, with green manure species as cover (mucuna-preta, mucuna-dwarf, pigs and
calopogonium) and the control, without green manure. The soil cover was evaluated at 15, 30,
60, 75 and 90 days after emergence (DAE) of legumes, separating the cover provided by legumes
and spontaneous plants. The method of number of intersections was used from a 50 cm
side frame with a network of strands spaced every 5 cm. Green manure proved to be efficient
competitors with weeds. Mucuna-anã and mucuna-preta were the fertilizers that best provided
the soil cover and had a suppressive effect on weeds.
