Abstract

The objective of this work was to identify shading levels in coffee field cultivated in agroforestry
and full sun systems, in three rural properties. In each property, 20 sampling points with 1 m2
each were selected, located between the rows of coffee plants, with 10 points in places where
coffee is found consorciado with trees and 10 points in places with coffee in full sun. Hemispheric
photographs were used as indirect methods to determine shading levels. The levels of
shading range from 44-76% (agroforestry system) and to 6-26% (full sun system). Shading can
contribute several benefits, such as the appropriate microclimate to coffee crop. However, it is
necessary to evaluate the adequate level of shading for coffee production.
