The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Station of Biology, at UnB, from April to
December 2015. The objective was to evaluate the effect of bovine milk serum on the production
and quality of Santa Clara tomato under organic fertilization. The experimental design was
completely randomized with five treatments, in four replicates of 10 plants. The treatments
were: bovine serum (SLB) at concentrations of 100% and 75% with application twice a week;
SLB in concentrations of 100% and 75% with application once a week; and control with water
application. The application of SLB at a concentration of 75%, once a week, provided a 60%
increase in tomato production and presents potential for use, considering time savings, service
reduction and inputs, together with increased production of tomatoes with desirable physical
and chemical characteristics, compared to the application of equal and higher concentrations
of SLB, twice a week. This technology has the potential to assist growers who wish to work with
tomato production in organic farming systems.
