Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the extraction period of the açaí and the food habit
of the fruit by the families of the rural communities Manoel Raimundo and Juba in the municipality
of Cametá, State of Pará. The methodology applied was the qualitative approach, by
bibliographic research, observation of landscapes , Participant observation, and non-directive
interviews with key informants. The research concluded that the açaí consumed in the agricultural
establishments does not follow the same requirement of the conventional market in the
state of maturation of the fruit and to the health care at the time of the collection of the fruit.
On the other hand, the use of açaí for its derivatives is a reflection of the sociocultural manifestation
derived from the values and meanings of the family groups through intergenerational
knowledge.
