Milk production is of great importance to the family farmer, however, the bovine tick limits the productivity and health of cattle. Family farmer already use extracts of some medicinal plants to control the ticks of his herd. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of alecrim-de-mocó (Lippia schaueriana) essential oil in the control of the cattle tick in vitro. The alecrim-de-mocó essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation and evaluated in 100.0, 50.0, 25.0, 12.5 and 6.2 mg/mL concentrations, by immersion test of engorged females. The efficacy of alecrim-de-mocó essential oil (100.0 mg/mL) was 98.2% on engorged females. This result was similar (p>0,05) to the obtained by commercial acaricide. This study showed the potential of alecrim-de-mocó essential oil for the development of a bioacaricidal environmentally friendly, which can will be used in agroecological and organic dairy herds.
