Abstract

Agricultural and forestry entomology encompasses the science and interactions of man with the ecosystem, seeking to unveil the biotechnologies involved in this complex theme to elementary school students II, from the Valtair Gabi municipal school, located in the municipality of Seropédica, RJ. Revealing on the importance of the biodiversity of the universe of insects, in its basic aspects in the first trophic levels and their relevance within the food chains they maintain, as well as the biological control that can contribute through the application of conservative management, seeking for primacy of a symbiosis between insects and humans, as regards ecological balance, as well as a vision of the production of food that is free from harmful or deleterious products to nature, and to the health of all beings (animal, plant and man). In this way environmental education is an essential tool to demystify the paradigms that exist in the popular concept that all insects are pests or harmful to living beings, based on a negative and finalist view. In this way, it was sought to relate to the knowledge that the students themselves conceived before and after the experience of evaluations such as: essays, conversational wheels, through dialogic activities, and participation in the proposed activities in the execution of the extension project: Federal University Interaction Rio de Janeiro / RJ and the said school. Developed by the authors of these works and their collaborators. The knowledge gained on the theme and the interest of the students on the topics covered was recorded, as well as the functionality of the techniques used in a didactic way.
