Organization of peasant families to multiply seeds of creole maize as a strategy of food sovereignty in northeast of Para

This report aims to describe the initial steps of the organization of peasant families in the northeastern
region of Para, aiming at the production of native corn seed. This is a pioneering
experience of the Popular Peasant Movement, highlighting two aspects: to product healthy
nutrition for the auto consume, for the nutrition of the animals; and multiplication of the seeds
for the distribution between the peasant families. The production of Creole mice seeds is insert
on the debate of the nutrition soberany and the peasant autonomy in front of the agribusiness
logical. The methodological procedures adopted were bibliography revision; participant observation
and documental analyze. The main contribution of this initiative was the resumption of
collective practices from the memory of the “older” people of the communities. We observed
also that, in spite of all members of the family are involved in some way on the reproduction of
the creole seeds, the women point out as the principal protagonists.
