Keywords:
Food safety, Food sovereignty, School lunch, AgroecologyAbstract
The article presents an action carried out by the Agroecology Center of Cerrado Mineiro (NACEM)
of the Federal University of Uberlândia, Monte Carmelo campus, to experience biofortification
in school feeding of the municipality. With this action, the nucleus sought to disseminate
the knowledge and technologies produced at the university to the population, guaranteeing
one of the basic principles of food sovereignty, which is the right of consumers to receive
information about what they consume. The experience of biofortification clarified the myth of
the existence of genetic alteration in these plants to obtain a higher concentration of micronutrients
(vitamin A) and allowed the children to experience the whole process of production and
consumption of the Uberlândia 10000. NACEM encourages food production healthy and diversified,
without the use of agrochemicals and non-transgenic, in a decentralized way, based on
the peasant family agriculture and the agroecology paradigm.
