The processes of popular education in a non-school environment emerge as an alternative
paradigm the current social order, which must be based on environmental, cultural, socioeconomic
dimensions and tied to the perspective of sustainable rural development. The experiment
was carried out through the Agroecological School extension project, constituting the
implementation of an organic vegetable garden with the “Seeds of the Future” group of children
of farmers in a rural community in the municipality of Casserengue-PB, which is inserted in the
geographical area of the Brazilian semiarid. The methodology used was based on participatory
action research. It was observed that this activity promoted the direct contact of the young with
the land, encouraging the interest for agriculture and olericultura, stimulating the creation of
vegetable gardens and even producing and selling the obtained products, since many did not
have experience in the practical activities of agriculture.
