Fisheries and fishermen: reports of the experience lived in Ilha do Capim, Abaetetuba, Para

Abstract

This article reports the experience of the students of the Technical Course in Fisheries Resources
of IFPA, Campus Vigia de Nazare. The experience took place on the Island of Capim,
Abaetetuba, Pare and was of great importance for the professional formation of the same, as
it allowed the exchange of knowledge between academic theory and the knowledge of local
fishermen. For the inhabitants of the riverside, the Amazon presents itself and only a “sensitive
and observant” look at the social practices existing in it can situate it in a concrete way
and out of the generalist and exotic visions to which it is often submitted . On the contrary, the
subjects of the field, with whom we live, do not want to leave Ilha do Capim, they want dignified
conditions for themselves and their families so that they can stay in the field. Through orality
artisanal fishermen transmitted their teachings always using nature with teaching and learning
subsidies.
